My Wedding Website

I designed and and coded my wedding website and RSVP system.

As a web designer, there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity to build my wedding website from scratch--and an online RSVP system was the perfect way to save money on postage! In retrospect, I probably underestimated the difficulty of this undertaking, but I learned something new and sharpened my web design skills along the way. Check out the code on Github.

Design

I used responsive design, a simple grid, and legible typography to maximize accessibility.

I wanted the design to be minimalist, bold, and a bit fun to match the style of our invitations (and us as well). The chief goal though was for it to be functional so guests of all ages using any device could get important details about the event and RSVP without a problem. I used responsive design, a simple grid, and legible typography to maximize accessibility. Even our older less tech-savvy relatives were able to access the site and register without any hiccups so I would call this design a success!

Code

I built an online RSVP system using the Google Sheets API.

My wife and I never thought that throwing a party for our friends would require a database, but tracking RSVPs, dietary restrictions, and up-to-date contact information proved to be quite a tedious undertaking. Google Sheets provided us with the flexibility we were looking for to manage our attendees in a real-time collaborative way. It also provided me with the ability to use it like a relational database and build an integrated system for guests to RSVP online.
